E-Learning Module: "À table! Mangez!" (Articulate Module)

Project Overview: Designing for Authentic Communication

  • Category: E-Learning & Interactive Content (Instructional Design Module)

  • Tool Used: Articulate Rise / Storyline

  • Target Audience: High School French II (9th–10th Grade)

  • Need Addressed: Students need authentic context to express opinions and use the past tense naturally.

The Instructional Challenge

This module addresses the difficulty students have moving beyond rote grammar recitation to using advanced structures, like the Passé Composé, in meaningful, spontaneous conversations. The goal was to provide an authentic, self-paced module that requires students to interpret and use past-tense language in a culturally relevant context—dining reviews. This project demonstrates my ability to integrate creative solutions to real educational problems.

Instructional Design & Module Flow

This seven-section module was structured to move learners from simple interpretation to complex creation, aligning with the ACTFL modes of communication:

  1. Interpretive Mode: Learners first read real French Google Reviews and categorize them as positive or negative using a sorting activity.

  2. Cultural Comparison: A key step involves an interactive table where students compare the tone and content of French vs. U.S. dining reviews, appreciating French cultural norms in evaluation.

  3. Language Patterns: Key structures for expressing opinion (e.g., c'était délicieux, j’ai aimé le service) are highlighted with feedback to model language use.

  4. Presentational/Interpersonal Mode: The module culminates when students write or record their own short dining review using the modeled phrases, directly achieving the Can-Do Statements.

This project showcases expertise in creating interactive courses and using technology to drive engagement.
