UX Design Prototype: Global Educator Resource Portal (Figma)

Project Overview: Designing for Teacher Professional Development (PD)

  • Category: Design Thinking & Prototyping (UX Design Module)

  • Tool Used: Figma (Information Architecture, Wireframing, Prototyping)

  • Target Audience: K-12 World Language Educators (French, Mandarin, Spanish, etc.) and Curriculum Coordinators.

The Problem: Disconnected PD and Resource Overload

K-12 World Language educators often struggle to find and integrate the latest effective teaching tools, research-backed strategies, and PD opportunities specific to their domain (e.g., ACTFL standards, communicative approach). The challenge was to design a single, intuitive mobile portal to centralize these resources, moving teachers away from disconnected resources and towards effective, standards-aligned instruction.

UX Design Process

This project utilized Design Thinking focused on the educator user. The core goal was to reduce cognitive load and friction for busy teachers seeking professional growth.

  • Information Architecture (IA): The IA prioritizes high-value resources into three clear channels: Tools Library, Strategy Guides, and PD Calendar. This structure ensures teachers can quickly navigate and filter content by language, standard, or grade level, optimizing time efficiency.

  • Wireframing & Prototyping: I prototyped the user experience for quickly finding a strategy guide (e.g., "Teaching the Subjunctive") and registering for a new PD workshop, demonstrating an ability to design smooth, task-oriented flows.

Key UX Features

The design emphasizes professional utility and clarity:

  1. "Resource Spotlight" Dashboard: The home screen features dynamically changing "Spotlight" cards that highlight new research or recently uploaded tools (e.g., a new EdPuzzle integration tutorial), driving user engagement with fresh content.

  2. Filterable Content: Users can filter the Tools Library by instructional need (e.g., Assessment, Vocabulary Acquisition, Speaking Practice), showcasing an understanding of effective taxonomy for instructional resource management.

  3. Visual Consistency & Accessibility: The interface uses clean typography, ample white space, and clear iconology to ensure the portal is accessible and visually trustworthy for busy professionals.

This Figma project demonstrates my ability to apply UX principles to a critical K-12 need: providing high-quality, streamlined professional support for World Language educators.
